Sailor Villa Playa Blanca
The “Sailor Villa” Playa Blanca concept works around the formula of Accommodation + Nautical activities. Each day, you can choose whether to have a go at dinghy sailing, windsurfing, kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. Today, we’d like to introduce you to our very own Chachi, a legendary figure in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. He’s spent all his life on the water and is fondly remembered by everybody who has sailed with him.
I arrange to meet him at Bar One in Marina Rubicón. He turns up with his trusty canine friend wearing his own doggy life jacket. I reckon he’s sailed as many miles as Chachi himself. More than once the shout of “dog overboard” has been heard but, just like his owner, he’s a truly hardened sailor.
Once the greeting protocol is over, he proudly shows me his handwritten “private logbook”, full of comments, photos and thank-you notes from the numerous visitors who have sailed around the island with him. Many of them learnt to sail with him and now come with their kids, who also follow his every word whilst on board his sailboat, beachcomber or when out windsurfing.
Chachi shows me some photos that have many a story behind them, such as the one of the Doreste brothers sailing with him or of the King of Spain greeting him on the royal visit to Lanzarote, as well as dozens more photos with touching comments written by people from all over the world who have had the chance to spend memorable days out sailing with him.
Today he’s still sailing and out there enjoying what he likes the most, sharing his unique world, his experiences and his masterful advice with people. He still goes out on his boat, his beachcomber or his windsurf-taxi, as he likes to call it. He also runs full-moon kayak trips for groups around Marina Rubicón, an experience that is definitely worth trying out.
So this is the legendary figure we’d like to share with all of you who come to Sailor Villa Playa Blanca. There’s no doubt whatsoever that you’ll learn the ropes and more likely than not gain a new friend.
